It is a good day for Exploration Place and Science Centre.

Back in June, the Centre entered into an agreement to be the legal repository of Lheidli T’enneh artifacts with a goal of repatriating artifcats that are currently held at other institutions. In honour of that partnership, a permanent exhibit called Hodul’eh-a – A Learning Place, at the museum was set up. That display caught some attention in Ottawa and, today, the partnership has been awarded the Governors General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming.

“There isn’t a higher honour that a museum can receive in the country,” says Tracy Calogheros. “And to get it in conjunction with the Lheidli T’enneh just makes it all the better.”

According to the Governor General’s office, Hodul’eh-a – A Learning Place “serves as a model for how Indigenous and non-Indiigenous communities can work together to reclaim traditional spaces, protect cultural assets and promote greater understanding and respect for Indigenous history and experiences.”
