Prolific Auto Thieves Back On The Streets Soon

“We certainly been prone to stolen vehicles of late and we expect with the possible release of prolific offenders coming up that we’ll see more in the coming days.”
That was a statement made by Cpl Craig Douglass at the scene of an accident involving a stolen vehicle earlier this week.
He says there are some well-known car thieves set to hit the strreets. That sometimes leads to commerical crimes as well, with the thieves stealing the cars to commit a break in.
It also serves as a reminder to vehicle owners to protect their property. While newer vehicles are tougher to steal as they come equipped with anti-theft devices and more sophisticated security, the same can’t be said of older models.
“Older vehicles and, in particular, pick up trucks from the late ’90’s to about 2008, are targetted specifically because they don’t have these immolizing devices and they are relatively easy to steal,” says Cpl Douglass. “Those are the vehicles that thieves are going to go after.”
There are ways to reduce the temptation for thieves: Park in well-lit areas, lock vehicle doors, don’t leave vehicles running and unattended. And, if you do have an older vehicle, use a club. Cpl Douglass says, while it is not fool proof, it may act as a deterrent.
