Ice Oval Set To Open
Nov 16, 2017 | 9:27 AM
It’s a bit earlier than normal, but the Outdoor Ice Oval is set to open this Saturday.
A crew of eight to ten volunteers have been out at the ice oval since November 4th, getting ready to have the facility open for skaters. As long as overnight teemperatures stay at minus six or colder, the ice oval is viable, with flooding happening at seven in the morning and nine at night. Even today, volunteers are using fire hoses to soak the ice surface. So far, the weather has held for ice-making. Until now, crews would man four fire hoses and soak a quarter of the oval each. But the base has now developed enough to the point where the crews can get the water truck onto the ice.
