Nutcracker Ballet a Tradition for Dancers and Audiences

Dec 13, 2017 | 10:34 AM

This weekend Vanier Hall will be full of the sounds and sights of the Nutcracker Suite ballet.   The biennial tradition continues as a partnership with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra and Judy Russell.

While this might be the first or second time performing in the ballet for some,  others have been practicing for years to take the lead roles including Owen Selkirk who plays the Nutcracker Prince.  He says his first time in the Nutcracker he was 15 years old,  and danced a very small part.

Playing opposite Selkirk are Makenna Thiffault and Kate McGowan who share the role of Clara and the Snow Queen.  Thiffault began dancing in the Nutcracker at the age of 5,  while McGowan was 7 years old.
As the Nutcracker ballet is a tradition for cast members,  it is also one for local audiences,  who will be transported back in time through the age old story of Clara and her Prince as they travel to the land of snow, sweets and flowers accompanied by the famour Tchaikovsky music.

The Judy Russell and The Prince George Symphony Orchestra ballet runs friday saturday and sunday at 7:30 with weekend matinee performances at 2 pm.  Tickets are still available through Central Interior Tickets.
