Start Small With Your New Years Resolutions
Excess food and drinks over the holiday season can take a toll on your mental and physical health. With the New Year right around the corner, you may be looking for a fresh start in 2018. It’s important to start small with your resolutions to make sure you’re successful all year long. “Try different things, find something you find enjoyable because if you don’t enjoy it you’re not going to stick to it,” said Northern Health Physical Activity lead, Gloria Fox.
The Canadian physical activity recommendation for adults is 150 minutes of exercise a week. That can be a daunting task if you’re not active already. “Start small and build your way up with time, with the number of days in the week. Start small, build your way up, keep yourself safe from injury,” added Fox.
It’s important not to compare yourself to others and to keep yourself on track. “Everybody is different, we all have unique strengths and challenges,” said Mental Wellness lead, Stacie Weich. “We encourage people to love themselves the way they are, health at every size.”
