Cold Weather Brings Homeless Population Indoors

Dec 28, 2017 | 3:09 PM

It’s going to dip down into the -30’s overnight this weekend. The cold weather brings an increased risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Local homeless shelters are open 24/7 to accomodate those seeking shelter from the cold.

Local shelters are seeing an increase in people staying indoors all day as the temperatures drop. That’s giving outreach workers a chance to offer more support for people using their services. Drop-in centres like St Vincent de Paul are seeing a decrease in people this week as it’s too cold for people to walk over. Staff are reminding the public that things like socks and other warm clothing are always needed.
