PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George is joining the City of Victoria for a special cause.

In this day and age, there are more and more users of the city’s streets. The City of Victoria has put forward a position paper called “Modernizing the BC Motor Vehicle Act.”  It calls on the Province to change the Act to reflect all the users of the roads and streets to make them safer. The City of Prince George has added its name to that list of municipalities. Councillor Jillian Merrick brought the letter before Council because she would like to see some changes to the Act.

“First and foremost is its name,” she says. “It’s called the Motor Vehicle Act but it’s supposed to cover all sorts of transportation, like pedestrian and cycling. So the call is really around re-visiting that Act to see how our transportation uses have changed and how the legislation needs to change.”

She says the changes would better reflect some of the rules of the road and improve safety for all users.
