PRINCE GEORGE — The Port of Prince Rupert has seen tremendous growth over the past few years, seeing overall tonnage going through the port increased by nearly 30 percent in 2017. And there are no plans to stop that growth, which is very good news for all of Northern BC.
The overall tonnage through the port was up by 28 percent in 2017 over the year before and that exceeded the previous record high volumes of 23 million tonnes of cargo set in 2013. Roughly $35 billion of trade was shipped through the port last year and the port generated a billion dollars in revenue for Northern BC. Later this year, the Prince Rupert Port Authority plans to expand the opportunities for all of Northern BC to export.
