Electric Car Charging Stations Coming To Northern BC

PRINCE GEORGE — An organization is setting the wheels in motion to get more electric cars on Northern BC roads.

The Community Energy Association is pulling together a plan to having charging stations installed throughout the Northern Interior, connecting Kamloops with Haida Gwaii.

“When change happens, often it happens slowly for a long period of time and then you reach a threshold and then everything happens very quickly. That’s kind of where at now,” says Dale Littlejohn, Executive Director for the Association.

The City has given the Association a letter of support and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George has made a financial commitment to have roughly a dozen charging stations installed along Highways 16 and 5. That support will help when the Association applies for funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Such a network of charging stations is already in place in the Southern Interior and Lower Mainland and is about to launch in southern Alberta. That kind of track record outs long-time advocate of electric vehicles, Councillor Albert Koehler, at ease.

“They have a concrete plan in place to make it happen. That’s what I really like. And if we can buy into that, it’s a win-win for everybody.”

The Association feels, with a funding model and operational plan in place, it could have the charging stations in place as early as next spring.
