Ice Plant At Civic Plaza To Be Decommissioned

PRINCE GEORGE — The ice plant at Civic Plaza will be decommissioned after a unanimous vote of Mayor and Council.

A report came forward to Council at the last regular meeting.  It set out that the rink and refrigeration plant were built in 1994 and a recent inspection found that plant was coming to the end of its life.  The cost of replacing the ice-making facility would be $550,000. It was also noted that an average of five people used that ice surface per day.

At that time it was determined more discussion would have to happen during budget discussions as there are budgetary implications.

It was Councillor Garth Frizzell who put forward the recommendation to decommission the plant, especially in light of the tragedy in Fernie.
