PRINCE GEORGE – Environment Canada reports a winter storm dumped 35 cm of snow on Prince George but most residents will argue it seems like twice that amount. City road clearing crews and contractors have been working around the clock to keep roads open but the heavy snow is simply overwhelming them. Crews are expected to start clearing residential routes by this weekend.

There are no reported street closures, but many two-lane roads are down to one lane because of snow that has built up on each side of the street.  That includes parts of 5th Avenue leading in and out of the downtown and Domano Boulevard in the College Heights.

Traffic problems are also being reported in the BCR Industrial site where large trucks have fallen victim to the snow.

Light snow is expected to continue in Prince George today but the real problem could be the drifting snow.  Wind gusts of up to 50 k/hr are in the forecast.
