PRINCE GEORGE – The RCMP Youth Academy has been held throughout the week at Kelly Road Secondary School. Grade 11 and 12 students from across Northern BC are participating in the event that ends Saturday.

Reed-Micheal Scales, a grade 12 McBride Secondary student, wants to follow in his family’s footsteps working with the RCMP. Expectations are high when it comes to the Academy and working as a team.

“We face physical punishment, so pushups, wall-sits, squats, anything that is a physical punishment. It’s not meant to be mean, it’s meant to show that if we fail something we must pay for it. So we work together, and we learn, and we do better,” says Reed-Micheal Scales, a participant in the Youth Academy.

The students are put through a series of training exercises and lectures to simulate what life would be like at the RCMP’s Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan.
