$7.8 Million Towards Improving And Expanding BC’s Forest Sector
PRINCE GEORGE – The Province plans to invest $7.8 million into promoting the wood use and expand global markets.
Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade and Technology made the announcement today at the Council of Forest Industries’ annual convention. “Expanding our international markets, especially in Asia, is crucial to the long-term success of BC’s forest sector,” said Ralston. “This funding support opens the door to more trade opportunities for B.C. companies, and will lead to greater innovation in the industry.”
Under $6 million of the investment will focus on expanding markets for B.C.’s wood products in Asia and North America. The remaining funds will go towards research, education, marketing and capacity building through the Wood First program.
UNBC was among the 13 industry trade associations and research institutes selected to receive the funding, with $40,900. The funding will go towards researching the best configuration of mass timber and tall wood building hold-down connectors. The university will also be able to offer programs and events on advanced wood processing and building design solutions.
