PRINCE GEORGE- With the amount of snowfall we got this winter, many people expected the ice to come off area lakes much later than it really did. It’s a guessing game every year, but one Cluculz Lake resident is making it easier for those who can’t wait to get back into the water. Joni Brown has started what she calls the Cluculz Cam to give lake-goers a live bird’s eye view of lake conditions. “Often I’m sitting out here and I hear that it’s raining in Prince George and I’m texting pictures to my friends of the blue blazer out here, it’s a very different weather pattern,” said Brown.

The change in weather pattern between Prince George and Cluculz Lake is thanks to what is called a micro-climate. Even though the two communities aren’t far in distance, the change in terrain is to blame for different conditions. The close proximity to Vanderhoof is also to blame for stormy summertime weather we may not get in Prince George. “Vanderhoof believe it or not is the thunderstorm capital of BC,” said Environmental Sciences professor, Peter Jackson, “it tends to be where we get more convective weather, the interior plateau is a bit smoother, we get heavier thunderstorms there than in other places.”

Brown started the Cluculz Cam to take some of the guesswork out of a trip to the lake. To access the live stream visit Brown’s website.
