Applications Available For Universal Child Care Pilots
VICTORIA – The Province is now accepting applications from licensed child care providers to become affordable universal child care pilot sites. The new sites will run from September 1st of this year to March 31, 2020, and will convert about 1800 child care spaces at existing facilities into low-cost spaces for families. Fees will not extend beyond $200 a month, per child.
To be eligible for the program, providers must be currently licensed, have received operation funding for at least two years, approved for the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative, provide information on financial details, support a site visit from an evaluation contractor for chance to get a grant and be willing to enrol families receiving the new Affordable Child Care Benefit.
Applicants will receive priority if they serve Indigenous parents and children, families new to Canada, young parents under the age of 25, francophone families, families with children who have extra support needs and require inclusive spaces, and families who need extended hours of operation to cover shift work.
Child care is free for eligible families with an annual income less than $45,000 before taxes. Families with income less than $111,000 will pay less than $10 a day.
