Lumber Wraps Re-Purposed
PRINCE GEORGE – We see them often in sawmill yards and the trucks that move around town hauling lumber. There is a form of nylon wrap around the lumber to protect the wood from the elements and to display the logos of the mills the wood came from. But a volunteer with REAPS has found a third use for that nylon wrap. She goes to the lumber yards in town and “recycles” the wraps, washes them off and turns them into grocery bags.
“We donated, last year, a bunch of our cloth bags to the Farmers’ Markets,” says Terri McClymont, the Executive Director for REAPS. “And this year, it’s our hope to give them another 50 to 100 bags that the Farmers’ Market can then give back to their clients instead of handing out the plastic, non-reusable bags.”
One of the lumber yards where the lumber wraps have been re-purposed is Rona.
“At first, I could get my head and then I started thinking, you know what? These are great re-usable materials. In today’s day and age, why not re-use stuff as much as possible,” says Al Jones with Rona.
