Be Prepared When Floating The River

PRINCE GEORGE- Even if you’re a good swimmer in a lake or pool you may find it challenging to swim in the river so it’s important to be prepared when floating. That’s according to Brian Valentine, who is a swift water specialist with Prince George Fire Rescue. Valentine urges floaters bring proper personal flotation devices and to leave the alcohol at home. He says the fire department has responded to a number of calls for help on the river this year, all resulting in happy endings. However, Valentine says the river is higher than normal this year which means it may be difficult to spot hazards below the surface of the water that could entangle your floatie.
