Wildfire Evacuee Witness Heated Highway

PRINCE GEORGE – The wildfires are forcing many people to scrabble and seek a safe place away from the smoke and fire. The fire on the south side of Francois Lake forced a family to drive away from one, while closely drive past one of the largest wildfires in the province. Pius Jack is a resident of Grassy Plains, located on the south side of Francios Lake. Late Tuesday night he was asked to leave his home and head for Prince George. Before arriving in the city he witnessed helicopter crew pour water on parts of Highway 16 cooling the road because of the heat from the Shovel Lake fire was heating the roadway. In response to the growing number of evacuees, the city is extending the hours of the emergency reception centre at the CN Centre.
