Couple Caught Between Money and Memories

PRINCE GEORGE – A couple living in North Nechako are having trouble sleeping due to the constant sound of running water in their home. Muriel and Ed Bastien are stuck between giving up their home of 45 years or moving forward with a 20 thousand dollar project. When the City came to check out what was causing the sound, they dug a 12-foot hole into the end of the driveway and couldn’t find the answer. The next step the City advised them to take was calling in a plumber.

A water pressure test was run on the home with a level of 32 psi, getting barely a drizzle out of the shower and their neighbours were sitting at 75. Experts say a typical house should sit between 50-60 psi and shouldn’t pass 75 unless in a specific high-pressure zone.

The Bastien’s raised their own children in this home and it’s where their grandchildren have always come to visit. They are finding the thought of saying goodbye to something so close to them hard but coming up with the money to save it even harder.

The couple is waiting to give the City the go-ahead to repave the driveway until they’ve decided what to do with their house.
