Cause Of Sinkhole Determined By City Crews

PRINCE GEORGE – The troubles around the ongoing sinkhole at Winnipeg and Carney Streets may soon be over. City crews say they have determined the cause of the sinkhole. A portion of storm sewer pipe had partially collapsed as a result of holes on the pipe by large rainfalls. The water flows had brought nearby material into the pipe, causing the sinkholes.
In order to access the pipe, the excavation site will be expanded, forcing the closure of the southbound lanes of Winnipeg Street, starting on Tuesday. Crews expect the completion to take a few more weeks. Meantime, the City is asking motorists to use alternate routes.
