MP “Frustrated” Over PTSD Case

PRINCE GEORGE – The MP for Cariboo-Prince George is outraged about an inmate serving a sentence for second-degree murder in Nova Scotia is getting treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a condition he says he got because of the killing..

The issue of PTSD has been near and dear to MP Todd Doherty, who recently got Senate approved for his Private Members’ Bill tackling the issue of PTSD.

“We have a convicted murderer over in Nova Scotia that is now receiving benefits for his PTSD that he admits that he got from [committing] the murder,” says Doherty. “And he’s getting it from Veterans’ Affairs. And here we have veterans that I have met over the course of the last two and a half years that still, to this day, have to battle to get any form of recognition or any treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.”

He says that fact “absolutely frustrates me.” He says, just this week, a vet and a firefighter committed suicide.
