Move In Day At UNBC
PRINCE GEORGE – The summer is coming to an end as new students pull up to the University of Northern British Columbia residence on Sunday. The UNBC welcomed over 530 people into their new homes from around the world.
Students from across 28 different nations unpack their boxes and prepare themselves for the new school year. The University received their second-most number of applications in 15 years and have seen a large growth within just the last year. UNBC President, Daniel Weeks says he’s happy about the increase in students and what it will do for the University.
“This year we are so excited that enrollment is up again, we have more Timberwolves joining us again this year, we are up about 10 per cent. International students are up over 20 per cent so a great student body, we’ve got so many things planned for them.”
Roughly 25 per cent of new students came straight out of high school. For most, that means this will be the first time moving away from home and their families. There were many different emotions as cars were unloaded in the parking lot and parents said goodbye to their kids. Weeks says he hopes students feel the same way he did when moving into residence, extremely excited for what’s to come.
