Cops For Cancer Kicks off Mid-September

One kid with cancer, is one too many!

On December 15, 2009, Wren was 23 months old and diagnosed with cancer at the Smithers hospital – she was immediately flown to Vancouver.  A few days later, the pediatric oncologists determined that she had stage 4 neuroblastoma, a large tumour on her left adrenal gland, and cancer cells in her bone marrow and bloodstream.  She would have a 50% chance of living for a year, and 30% for living longer.

Wren is now ten years old and is in grade four. She enjoys playing fiddle and accordion, cross-country skiing, canoeing, hiking, writing stories, and exploring the ocean on the family sailboat.

Wren would not be here today if it were not for ongoing cancer research.  In the past ten years, the Canadian Cancer Society has invested over $3M in the research of neuroblastomas.

The Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tours are all about the kids!  There are four Tours in British Columbia that raise over $2.2M for pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes! All Tours involve rigorous training and fundraising leading up to September when the bikes hit the road all over the province.  Dedicated men and women will inspire friends, families and their communities to give courageously and make a direct impact on pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes.

This September, Tour de North will pedal over 850 km on the East/West route from Prince George to Prince Rupert and engage with the schools and communities along the way.  They will depart on Friday September 14 and one week later, arrive in Prince Rupert!

Sept. 14 Day 1: Prince George to Vanderhoof 100 km

Sept. 15 Day 2: Vanderhoof to Fort St James/return and on to Fraser Lake 175 km

Sept. 16 Day 3: Fraser Lake to Burns Lake 70 km

Sept. 17 Day 4: Burns Lake to Smithers 150 km
