PRINCE GEORGE – It’s nearly four years since sockeye salmon fishing was permitted within city limits. Many resident anglers are happy to hear a section of the Nechako River is now opened for a limited time to fish for sockeye. The fishing season opened August 27th and then goes until September 15th, anglers are able to fish between sunrise and sunset. The only section of the river that is open, is upstream from the confluence with the Fraser River to the downstream edge of the Foothills Boulevard Bridge. All retained sockeye fish must measure 30 cm or more from tip of nose to tail fork and limited to 2 per day. Anglers must also have update licences before heading to the banks of the Nechako River.
