Signal At 1st And Queensway Still A Go
PRINCE GEORGE – The tragic accident at First and Queensway, which resulted in the death of a 47-year-old Prince George woman, has prompted renewed calls for a traffic light at that busy intersection.
In fact, the City has been working with the Ministry of Transportation on planning for that, but the Ministry says there are some challenges.
“The City of Prince George and the Ministry have been researching the intersection of Queensway and Highway 16 [First Avenue] as it’s a shared intersection,” explains Millie Furlong with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. “But the road right-of-way is quite narrow in that are, so the options to upgrade the intersection are very complex.”
A traffic light at that location was also a request from Downtown Prince George when it made a presentation last October. Council at that time learned that the Ministry “is quite committed to this project” by Gina Layte Liston, the Director of Public Works.
Today, the Ministry says it will continue to work with the City, but there is no timeline for that project.
