PRINCE GEORGE – Council had a sticker shock moment during its most recent Council meeting when Administration presented a report on the Western Acres well-replacement project, which has been in the works for twenty years.

“Our tenders came in and we had three bids and they were all very close,” explains Dave Dyer, the General Manager of Public Works. “We have analyzed the results and found that the mechanical/electrical components, which are a big part of the project, as well as the concrete  and reinforcing steel were much higher than were budgeted.”

The budgeted amount was $3.3 million dollars and the lowest bid came in at $5.1 million.

“I was astounded” was Councillor Brian Skakun’s reaction to the news when Administration came to Mayor and Council looking for an additional $2.9 million.
