PRINCE GEORGE – The School District 57 board met last night for the first time in the school year and one of the hot topics included results of a French Immersion survey.  A majority of those who responded from the French Immersion community and Edgewood school were not in favour of changing their catchment school of Duchess Park Secondary.   Board chair Tim Bennett says “The quick summary is we had a 25% response rate with the Edgewood Survey and 30% with French Immersion. In both cases, a majority of respondents were not in favour of a change (57% of the 25% of respondents of Edgewood and between 58% and 60% of the 30% of French Immersion respondents – based on options)”

Board members are still looking for answers on the overcrowding at Duchess, and are hoping for more information.  Bennett says ” There were too many questions to answer, promised more consultation and need to allow the new board some flexibility in addressing the issue. The new board is going to have to make some very important decisions about how we address capacity issues in our district.” No decisions were made on any changes last night.

Other business saw the financial statements for the upcoming year with a small surplus and an agreement made with France to support French teachers and students.
