New Mindfulness Program For Teens At YMCA
PRINCE GEORGE – After receiving $3 million in funding from the provincial government, the YMCA of Northern BC is expanding their mindfulness program, an initiative started to help people manage stress and anxiety.
Originally, the program was only offered to adults, but will now be offered to teens aged 13 to 17. Participants will be taught how to connect with other teens in their communities, learn coping mechanisms and will have a safe space to get help if they need.
“We’re hoping to reach as many youth and teens in our community as possible just because it is a free program and the material is amazing and I think it really can help,” says Jane Daigle, Y Mindfulness Programs coordinator.
The program is being offered through partnerships with UNBC and the Hart Learning Centre, beginning later in the month. The content is the same between the adult course and the teen one, but the adult course is a little longer.
