Model X Putting On A Show At Farmers Market

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Famers Market had a few special guests on Saturday. They call themselves the “EV’ers”, a group of locals that drive electric vehicles. One of the reasons for the EV gathering at the Farmers Market was due to the recent arrival of the new Tesla Model X, a high-end rockstar of the EV world. The vehicle had just arrived in Prince George about a week ago and members of the group wanted to check it out. Model X is an extremely fast electric vehicle that can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in as quick as 3.1 seconds. The new owner of the vehicle had the Model X in action putting on a show for the crowd with its winged doors.

The reason the EV’ers are so fond of these cars is that they don’t run on gas, making it easier on the environment. The one problem with having an EV is that to run the vehicle you have to charge it and the drivers are finding it difficult to do road trips without having to worry about where they can stop next to charge. The second reason for showing off the vehicles on Saturday was to let people know there are EV’s in Prince George and they have a need for more charging stations like gasoline-run vehicles need gas stations.

“It’s frustrating that we don’t have more charging stations, especially between communities. So it’s to say hey we are here there is a reason to put in the infrastructure lets help put it in. It’s to tell a lot of people electric cars are here. People keep saying ‘well can you drive it in the winter?’ Yeah, I drive it all winter, can you drive your gas car in the winter? There’s times I can start my electric vehicle and you can’t start your gas car. Electrics are phenomenal and by being here we are trying to let people know that is the case,” says Doug Beckett an electric vehicle owner.”

Beckett says their group has been working with the City to try and get more charging stations available. They’re also talking to organizations like BC Hydro to provide information on where the stations are most needed.
