FCM Pipes Up On Pot

PRINCE GEORGE – The lack of any action from the Province with respect to revenue-sharing of cannabis sales has prompted the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to pipe up. In a letter written by FCM’s 2nd Vice President, it states:

“Municipalities are calling on the provinces to bring forward a clear path to uphold their end of the deal. They must provide support to municipalities to address local challenges around cannabis legalization.”

Garth Frizzell says, with the robust sale of cannabis since October 17th, the federal government could have raked in as much as $16 million in revenue.

“So the money’s flowing in and we still don’t have a plan. I can’t answer the question ‘How much money is Prince George going to get?’ because there’s just no news coming out,” says Frizzell. “And that’s common across provinces but right here in BC, that impacts us. Right here in Prince George, we’re spending money and we don’t even have an idea of what to expect. That is just not fair.
