Gaming For A Good Cause

PRINCE GEORGE – Gamers from around northern BC gathered inside the CN Center Atrium for 24 hours of gaming.

Volcanic Gaming hosted the 24 hours event to raise funds through Extra Life for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Extra Life started as a local fundraiser back in 2008 in legacy of Victoria Enmon, a young cancer patient from Texas. In 2011, Extra life became an official Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals fundraising program. Now, more than 50,000 gamers take part in the 24-hour event across North America to raise funds that impact pediatric care in their local communities.

Participants have the chance to take part in games such as Smash Bros Wii U, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Mario Kart and NHL 19. Entrance is by donation and that is typically where most of the money raised comes from but there are online donations as well.

Outreach Coordinator for Volcanic Gaming, Mia Craft says the reason she loves the event is because it does so much for sick kids and their families.

“I was pretty happy with this year’s turn-out. This was the first year where we had a public event during our 24-hour stream for Extra Life and we had a lot of new faces come out so we got to see a lot more of the gaming community that we normally wouldn’t and it’s always a good way for gamers to interact with each other and raise money for a good cause.”

By the end of the event, just under $1000 had been raised which will be donated to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Although game day is over, donations are still being collected until December 31st.
