Two Major Highway Projects Complete
PRINCE GEORGE – A major project on Highway 97 South at Stoner is now complete and it is now the only divided highway outside the Lower Mainland.
“It’s a very complex project. It includes three kilometres of four-laning, right along the Fraser River there,” explains Corrin Peet, Project Information Officer for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in Northern BC. “Nine Hundred metres of retaining walls, we stabilized five slides. There are another 600 metres of retaining wall down on the southbound end. We replaced a CN Rail overhead and decommissioned the old CN Rail overhead. So, a lot of complexities to this project.”
However, the project is about a year over the anticipated timeline and that will likely translate into budget overruns.
“Because of the timeline and the complexity of the project, right now, we are expecting to experience some budget pressure on it, and we’re in the process of refining those numbers.”
