City of Quesnel seeks Community Forest Agreement

QUESNEL – The City of Quesnel is trying again to secure a Community Forest Agreement with the Province.

Given the wildfires of the past two years, the City of Quesnel believes it is time to try for an Agreement. That agreement would give the City a tenure to harvest timber on City-owned properties.

Mayor Bob Simpson says the City has tried for years to get a licence, but it is more important now than ever and has a timeline in mind.

“The government is in the process of doing that apportionment phase of resetting the Annual Allowable Cut. So the number has been established by the Chief Forester for what our Annual Allowable Cut is,” he says. “Now it’s up to the Minister to give that volume to different licensees. So there’s a window for users to get that volume for a Community Forest Licence.  But we’re hoping before the end of Spring we’ll know whether we’ve been successful or not.”
