VANCOUVER — Global Affairs Canada has confirmed one Canadian is among the dead in a midair crash between sightseeing planes in Alaska.

The department says the name or hometown of the victim is not being released due to privacy reasons.

The United States Coast Guard says four people died when two floatplanes collided as they carried cruise ship tourists on sightseeing flights near the southeast Alaska town of Ketchikan.

Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios, a Coast Guard spokesman, said Monday that two others were missing.

The ship left from Vancouver on Saturday.

A Washington, D.C.-based investigative team from the National Transportation Safety Board is expected to arrive in Ketchikan this afternoon.
