IIO investigating incident between RCMP and cyclist over the weekend

PRINCE GEORGE — The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is looking into an incident involving a cyclist and an RCMP officer over the weekend.

The alleged victim was reported weaving in and out of traffic on his bicycle while not wearing a helmet and was stopped by an RCMP officer who attempted to ticket him and then place him under arrest for an unrelated incident that happened earlier.

The cyclist is reported to have resisted the officers attempt to arrest but was finally taken into custody with assistance from back up and taken to the Prince George RCMP Detachment where he was held overnight.

The next morning the man complained of pain and the Emergency Health Services was called in to take him to a local hospital for treatment.
