WILLIAMS LAKE—Frontline Officers located a 30-year-old male who had several unendorsed warrants in Williams Lake Saturday afternoon.

When police approached the male, he fled and climbed onto the roof of a motel. The male appeared to be suffering from a drug withdrawal and mental health issues and threatened to jump off the roof onto the ground. Frontline officers convinced him to climb down.

Once he was off the roof, officers engaged in a short foot pursuit where the male was taken into police custody without further incident.

“Frontline Officers effectively de-escalated the situation and eventually convinced the male to come down off the roof safely,” Williams Lake RCMP Media Relations Officer Cst. Joel Kooger says. “The successful and safe outcome of the incident is a direct result of the effective communication of on-scene officers working in partnership with the Williams Lake Fire Department and BC Ambulance Services.”

No further information has been released at this time.
