PRINCE GEORGE–It’s not Christmas, but it may have felt like it for some students of the Heavy Mechanical trades program at the College of New Caledonia Wednesday.

Two, end of service-life busses were donated to the program to help students gain hands on experience with real life materials before heading out in the field.

Richard Haukka, Pacific Western Transit Director of Maintenance says that students going into the program don’t always think about working on transit busses after graduation.

“There’s a great need for mechanics in the bus industry. It’s often overlooked–even today I talked to students, they want to talk about being a mechanic. But no one ever thinks about busses…they’re just not on the radar,” said Richard Haukka, PWT Director of Maintenance

The new busses were donated by PWT, BC Transit with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and the City of Prince George and will replace the dated ones the college had most recently.
