Another tax increase?

Seniors lead charge against another tax increase

PRINCE GEORGE — The deadline to stop a potential two percent tax levy increase is Thursday at 5pm. Prince George council is looking to borrow over $32 million dollars to pay for 11 projects around the city. Over 5,500 signatures are needed to send the projects to a referendum, like the one held for the new fire hall and swimming pool.

The charge for a referendum is lead mainly by seniors. They claim taxes are high enough and already make paying for essentials like housing tough enough while on a fixed income. The other issue lies in the time when signatures could have been picked up and dropped off at city hall, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.

Results will be released at the June 10 open council meeting.
