PRINCE GEORGE — An 18-year-old Prince George resident faces a hefty fine after police caught him driving 131 kilometres per hour along a 60 kilometre per hour portion of Foothills Boulevard.

Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says the incident occurred during the afternoon of May 27.

“The (male) driver was issued a $483 fine and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for seven days, despite the fact he was not the registered owner,” he says.

“In addition, the vehicle tow and storage bill will be the responsibility of the owner. Investigating officers have submitted a dangerous driver report to the BC Superintendent of Motor Vehicles for future licencing considerations.”

The Prince George RCMP focused on speeding and aggressive driving the entire month of May. Here are the results:

  • 251 speeding violations
  • 11 excessive speeding violations with a vehicle impound
  • 36 school zone speed violations
  • 3 fail to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles
  • 3 follow too closely
  • 4 driver without consideration for others or drive without due care

Douglass says volunteers also conducted speed watch in May. In all, 4734 vehicles were observed, with 2751 of those vehicles traveling above the posted speed.
