PG Fire Rescue urges proper disposal of cigarettes after small weekend fire

PRINCE GEORGE — A small fire was caused this weekend after a cigarette butt was thrown into a planter. The blaze was put out before fire crews arrived on scene but with how dry it had been, it could have been much worse. It happened in the 100 block of Gordon Crescent around 7:30am Saturday. Approximately $1,000 worth of damage was dealt.
It was a historically dry spring, the driest in Prince George since the data started being tracked. Only about 60% of normal precipitation was seen in May. That was the fifth consecutive month of drier than normal conditions.
PG Fire Rescue is urging smokers to properly dispose of cigarette butts to avoid causing any potential fires.
