Days before the 5th Annual PG Summer Hoops Classic, tournament organizer Nav Parmar was close to cancelling the event. This after he received the news of a passing in his family. The UNBC Timberwolves basketball coach decided to press on though, knowing that’s what his late uncle would have wanted. Saturday’s tournament, which was originally founded after the passing of one of Parmar’s uncles, enjoyed a successful fifth year, with a record 150 participants taking part in the three division tournament. Rebecca Landry, who joins the UNBC basketball team in the fall, won MVP as her Duchess Park squad took the girls division for the third straight year. Oliver Halpape hit a buzzer beater to give his team the Junior Boys win and dawning their City Champion shirts, Soren Erriccson and his Condor crew won the Senior boys division for the second straight year.
