Much needed rainfall will help against wildfires

PRINCE GEORGE — The north-central region of BC has seen steady rainfall since the start of the month but that’s actually a good thing. June rainfall largely dictates how severe the wildfire season will be because of moisture in the ground, helping to fight fires.
The last two years saw very little precipitation and lengthy dry spells, which contributed to the record breaking fire seasons. One difference this year that increases the need for more June rainfall, is drought conditions seen across the province. There are single-digit levels of snowpacks in parts of the Prince George and Northwest Fire Centres.
