Canfor announces ‘significant curtailments’

PRINCE GEORGE — Forestry giant Canfor has announced its significantly curtailing production capacity at all its B.C. sawmills, including in Prince George. The only exception is WynnWood.
“The majority of mills will be curtailed for two weeks or the equivalent, with extended curtailments of four weeks in Houston and Plateau, and six weeks at Mackenzie,” says the company in a news release. “The curtailments are scheduled to run from June 17 through July 26.”
The company blames the curtailments on “very poor lumber markets and the high cost of fibre, which are making the operating conditions in B.C. uneconomic.”
