Court hearing to decide on interim court injunction
PRINCE GEORGE — A court hearing is to begin tomorrow in Prince George on whether an interim injunction should continue against opponents of Coastal GasLink’s natural gas pipeline.
The company says it has signed agreements with all 20 elected First Nations councils along the 670-kilometre route from northeast B-C to LNG Canada’s export terminal in Kitimat — but hereditary chiefs in the Wet’suwet’en First Nation say the project has no authority without their consent.
Fourteen people were arrested near Houston last January after Coastal GasLink was granted an interim injunction in December against pipeline opponents.
Court documents filed on behalf of the opponents say certain vehicles and people were denied access to traditional territory in accordance with Wet’suwet’en law.
