Mother dog and nine puppies left to die in landfill

WILLIAMS LAKE–The BC SPCA is asking for the publics help in finding the owner of an abandoned mother dog and her puppies.

The estimated one year old dog was found by a good samaritan dumped in the Puntzi Lake Landfill in a sealed box with her nine puppies.

“There is no excuse for simply walking away from a pet and leaving them to die.” – Lorie Chortyk, the SPCA’s general manager of communications.

The dogs were found at the dump on June 5 where they stayed overnight at a local veterinary clinic and then transferred to the Quesnel & District SPCA.

Chortyk says that unfortunately this does happen quite often but shouldn’t, seeing how easy it is to bring unwanted pets to a shelter.

The puppies are around a week old and will be up for adoption once they are old enough to leave their moms side, at seven weeks of age.

The Quesnel SPCA is asking the public for donations of puppy pads, and teething for the puppies.
