It’s Tax Freedom Day

PRINCE GEORGE — Starting today is when the average Canadian would start working for themself rather than for the tax man. That’s according to the Fraser Institute, deeming June 14 as Tax Freedom Day. That means if you were to pay all of your taxes for the year upfront, today would be the day you start being able to actually take home your income.
The Fraser Institute breaks down the total tax bill for an average Canadian family to be 44.7 percent of its annual income. Some do question the accuracy of the report, with KPMG Partner Stan Mitchell saying the calculator is more of a conversation starter to get people thinking about what taxes they are actually paying for.
