Two UNBC students receive scholarships

Christiana Onabola and Hooi Xian Lee–two international students from UNBC were both the recipients of a collective $23,000 for the PEO’s International Peace Scholarship. One of the conditions for the scholarship is that the recipients go back to their home countries to use their education for good.

The federal government released a first ever national strategy on dementia. Nearly 80,000 Canadian Seniors are diagnosed with dementia a year. The $50 million strategy aims to help individuals across the province who suffer from dementia.

A bigger than “King Kong” sized monopoly man was blown up in town

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation came to town June 19 and inflated a 30 foot monopoly man named Barron von FenderBender to protest what they say is a “government enforced ICBC monopoly.” The blow up balloon has been travelling throughout the province and is making its way to Kamloops next.

Meals on wheels says they’re desperate for volunteers after an influx in clients that has left volunteers working over their scheduled times and left the organization unable to take new clients.

Northern Health has a new recruitment plan

The new recruitment plan is focusing on seven disciplines that merit attention: Register nurses, License Practical Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Sonographer and Pharmacy Technicians. BCNU President says retention is what they need to focus on, to prevent ongoing staffing problems.
