PRINCE GEORGE — The federal government has released a first ever national strategy on dementia.

More than 419,000 Canadian seniors have been diagnosed with some form of dementia, with nearly 80,000 Canadians being diagnosed each year.

Some rely on intensive care and need an average of 26 hours a week of assistance from relatives and friends.

The $50-million strategy aims to help individuals across the country who suffer from dementia, including people in Northern B-C.
