Category two open burning to be allowed in Cariboo

WILLIAMS LAKE– Category two open burning will be allowed again in the Cariboo Fire Centre’s jurisdiction.

The prohibition will be lifted Wednesday, June 26 after the BC Wildfire Service says there are lower fire danger ratings in the region, expected rainfall and cooler temperatures.

Anyone conducting a Category 2 open burn anywhere in the Cariboo Fire Centre is urged to exercise caution.

The following activities will also be allowed within the Cariboo Fire Centre͛s jurisdiction as of noon on June 26, 2019:

• the burning of stubble or grass over an area less than 0.2 hectares
• the use of sky lanterns
• the use of fireworks, including firecrackers
• the use of tiki torches and similar kinds of torches
• the use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for target practice)
• the use of burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
• the use of air curtain burners
