Saskatchewan says Supreme Court could hear carbon tax challenge in December

REGINA — The Saskatchewan governments says its carbon tax challenge could be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada before year’s end.

The province says it has been notified that the reference case has been tentatively set for Dec. 5.

Saskatchewan appealed to the country’s highest court after losing its constitutional challenge against a federally imposed carbon tax in its own Appeal Court.

Attorney General Don Morgan says Ottawa violated Saskatchewan’s constitutional jurisdiction when it started charging the federal levy April 1.

The province’s lawyers are preparing to submit a factum due near the end of July.
